Could platinum become the solution for powering data centers?

Platinum for powering the future is a key part of WashU Professor Gang Wu’s filed patent. Wu’s research team is working with collaborators to develop a potential fuel-cell solution for powering data centers. Platinum’s contribution to the new technology would allow data centers to independently create their own electricity!

Emerging platinum intermetallic catalysts have shown proven catalytic performance during energy conversion and storage.

“If a data center is able to supply its electricity itself by using a fuel cell, it would directly convert hydrogen and other fuels into the electricity, reducing the burden on the energy grid,” Wu said.
